Operating within Canton Basel-Stadt's Culture Department, Basel Museum Services supports the strategic development of the canton's museums and is responsible for their overall communications and marketing. Museum Services provides central services to museums in the canton and neighbouring areas. It does this mainly for the cantonally funded museums, but also covers private museums and museums backed by other authorities where this is sensible and practical. Museum Services takes the lead on communication, information and marketing, while also initiating, managing and coordinating multi-institution projects. In terms of content, its work always focuses on the social dimension of culture and art, and its relevance to contemporary issues.
